Willard Morgan, The Mayor of West Eighth Street

He’s an impresario. He’s a musician. He’s a performance artist, an actor, a singer, and a producer. He’s Willard Morgan, and if you ask his neighbors, he’s the Mayor of West 8th Street. That stretch of thoroughfare may only run from Fifth to Sixth Avenue, but it is one of the most historic cultural spots in all the Village. Electric Ladyland Studio, built by Jimi Hendrix, is at the corner near Sixth, as an example.

There are so many things I want to talk about Willard Morgan, but I cannot find the right words, meeting him and his studio opens your soul to another dimension, because not only Willard is a personage, but his house also has life by itself.

He is skinny, with crazy hair, happy and full of life. Willard lives in his “Mansion” (yes, his studio has a name); he has art for breakfast, lunch and dinner, every corner of his studio has his sparkle, is like if he leaves fairy dust all over the places he is around.

NEW YORK—To introduce its new line of Zero Sugar juices, Welch’s hosted a pop-up experience with a surprise speakeasy at Ideal Glass Studios in the West Village.

From Jan. 23-26, Welch’s Zero Bodega was designed to resemble an NYC corner store stocked with Zero Sugar-themed merchandise and products including pens, notepads, lip balm, stickers, lunchboxes, and more, as well as its full line of juice flavors such as passionfruit, grape, tropical punch, and strawberry.

The village view

Willard Morgan is operator of Ideal Glass Studios, a small film stage/flexible space. The artist-run film and TV production studio was founded in 2004 by Morgan, a native New Yorker, actor, and artist. The website calls this space “extremely fun, decadent, and ultimately breathtaking.” The upstairs rooms look like an old brownstone parlor where you can film different sets, have a party or hold a fashion show.
