What happens when we listen to music not only with our ears, but with the whole body?
Syntonic8 is an intimate movement and live music experience exploring the relationship between sound, sensation, breath, movement and attention.
Led through a guided movement journey by Renata Sheppard, with live music performed by Giulia Magarelli, Syntonic8 invites us to experience music as something physical: vibration moving through the body, rhythm becoming movement, breath becoming phrasing, and stillness becoming a deeper form of listening.
There is something fundamentally different about encountering music live. Sound exists not only as something we hear, but as vibration occurring in the room and in real time. Syntonic8 explores how that immediacy can awaken our connection to our own bodies.
Through simple guided movement and somatic exploration, participants will be invited to bring attention inward toward sensation: weight, breath, vibration, impulse, rhythm and stillness. The live music becomes part of that exploration, heightening sensation and creating an evolving environment in which movement changes the way we listen, and listening changes the way we move.
For this first Syntonic8 experience, Giulia's live performance will feature music by celebrated Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi, whose evocative compositions create a rich landscape for movement, attention and embodied listening.
This is not a performance to watch. It is an experience to enter.
No dance or yoga experience is necessary. The movement is guided and accessible, with an emphasis on curiosity, sensation and individual experience rather than performance or achieving particular forms.
Come comfortable. Come curious. Come prepared to move — and to listen differently.

About the Artists
Renata Sheppard is a movement-based visual artist, choreographer, filmmaker and Certified Laban Movement Analyst whose work investigates the body as a site of perception, memory and transformation. Her practice spans dance, somatics, yoga, GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methodologies, filmmaking and visual art, with a particular interest in embodied attention and the relationship between movement, environment and the nervous system.
Giulia Magarelli is an Italian-born pianist, collaborative accompanist and opera coach whose work spans opera, chamber music and interdisciplinary performance in Europe and the United States. She has collaborated with singers, instrumentalists and major opera productions, including work with the Donizetti Opera Festival in Bergamo, Italy. At the center of her practice is the art of musical collaboration: listening, responding and shaping music in relationship to the performers and environment around her. In Syntonic8, that sensitivity expands beyond the stage as live piano becomes an active partner in the participants' movement and embodied experience.
Syntonic8 is a developing collaboration between Giula, Renata and Luca exploring how movement and live music can be composed together to create immersive embodied experiences.
